There are companies you simply work with, and there are those with whom a professional understanding develops almost immediately. We met Cloto during one of those complex, high-pressure moments familiar to anyone working in the premium segment, when something has to be resolved quickly, precisely, and without unnecessary noise. That first experience became the beginning of a collaboration and, later, the reason for this conversation.
Born in Sardinia forty years ago from a vision of female leadership, Cloto brings together interior design and the heritage of high-quality Italian craftsmanship. Over time it has evolved into a luxury atelier on the Costa Smeralda, specialising in bespoke interior solutions and custom-made furnishings for exclusive villas, yachts, and prestigious hotels. For owners and managers coordinating luxury villa stays, including those working within our Rental12 ecosystem, this same commitment to unseen precision is often what turns a well-appointed property into an exceptional one. We spoke with the team about how the company began, what quality means to them, how they choose their partners, and the role Sardinia continues to play in their work.
What stayed with us after this conversation was not a statement about luxury but something more fundamental: the idea that quality can be measured by how much uncertainty disappears around you. The higher the level of work, the less a client should need to control it, not because the process is simple, but because someone else has taken full responsibility for its complexity. Perhaps this is why the phrase quality is the absence of anxiety feels so precise, shifting the meaning of quality away from objects and visible perfection, toward trust, and toward the quiet confidence that the details are being held even when you are not looking.
Is Cloto a story of a family, a team, or an idea? How did it all begin?
Cloto is fundamentally an idea born from the founders' mother, described by the team as "a stubborn and determined woman who knew how to fight for a dream: to create a company that produced products of timeless beauty and quality." Her grit turned into success, and that became the starting point for continuing to create unique products. The company is a story passed down from one generation to the next, from mother to daughters, and from them to a team of professionals who now operate with the synchronicity of a family. It did not begin with a business plan, but with the shared realisation that in the premium segment there was a profound gap between service provided and expectations seamlessly met, built on the belief that discretion, impeccable execution and genuine care are non-negotiable foundations for trust.
You work in a field where details define everything. What does quality mean to you?
"It is the absence of anxiety," the team explained. It is the state where a client never has to check, worry or follow up, and it is the foresight to anticipate an unspoken detail or a hidden need before it becomes a problem. "Quality, for us, is research, updating, passion, constant improvement, commitment, teamwork, and loyalty."
How do you choose the people and companies you collaborate with? Is it intuition or strategy?
It is a balance of both. The initial contact often relies on intuition, a quick read of professional etiquette, shared values and mutual respect for the premium environment. The enduring relationship, however, is built on strategy: seeking partners who keep their word, operate with discretion and bring an innate aesthetic sensibility. "We look for substance over show," the team said, choosing people with strong values, loyalty to the team and healthy ambition.
What makes Sardinia the perfect place for your work?
Sardinia demands respect for its pace, its privacy and its beauty, and it is defined by contrasts between ancient tradition and cutting-edge luxury. That environment enforces an understanding of authenticity and discretion, and the work is rooted in respecting the island's rhythm while delivering globally impeccable standards. As the team put it, the island "teaches us to act with grounding, sincerity, and power, much like its granite landscape. It must be felt, not explained."
What type of client request feels the most yours, the one where you shine most fully?
The requests that feel most theirs are the ones others describe as logistical puzzles or quiet emergencies, moments when a client needs a complex, multi-layered solution executed invisibly and under a tight timeline, without disturbing the principal's peace. These are what the introduction of this conversation called mission impossible moments, where success is not just delivery but a tranquil, impeccable choreography of many moving parts. That calm and precision, the team said, is where they shine.
Premium service means everything must be impeccable. How do you maintain that level consistently?
Two core principles guide the work: ownership and constant refinement. Every team member acts as if the project belongs to them personally, applying the same care and foresight they would to their own affairs. The team also focuses on simplicity, systematically removing unnecessary noise, bureaucracy and complexity, never relying on flash or unnecessary promises, and keeping the process robust behind the scenes while the client interaction stays seamless and minimalist.
Is there a project you remember with special pride or affection?
The team says they remember all projects with affection because each one is built on trust. Every client relationship becomes a source of improvement and growth, which is why no single project stands apart from the rest.
What do you value in your partners, and what do you value in us?
In every partner, professional character and clarity matter most, along with reliability in keeping a simple promise as much as in executing a grand task. Speaking specifically about this collaboration, the team highlighted the shared synchronicity, aesthetic alignment, clear and respectful communication, and the immediate trust placed in their capability from the very first challenge.
What is next for Cloto? What can we expect in the coming seasons?
Growth is, and will always be, organic rather than explosive. Rather than chasing volume, the focus is on deepening mastery, refining a network of trusted providers, and extending the ability to execute complex, multi-faceted requests, always combining tradition and innovation across the entire value chain of product and service.
If you had to express your philosophy in one single sentence, what would it be?
"To exceed expectations and give our utmost for the highest client satisfaction."
