Rusty railway tracks curve along a grassy coastline beside calm blue sea, with rocky headlands in the distance under a bright, partly cloudy sky.

The town of Mandas, in the Trexenta area, is working with regional transport company Arst to bring its historic train back onto the tracks. Total investment comes to €1.5 million, with funding from the national government, the Region, the Fondazione di Sardegna and other bodies.

Arst has finished restoring the locomotive. The train still needs approval from Italy's national railway and road safety agency before it can carry passengers again. Mayor Umberto Oppus says the goal is a special inaugural trip on the Mandas-Seui line in May 2027.
