Chiesa Nostra Signora del Monte is a small church set on a hilltop along the SP16 near Golfo Aranci, in the Gallura region of north-east Sardinia. Perched above the coastline between Golfo Aranci and Marinella, it looks out over the gulf, with views that take in the sea and surrounding countryside.
The chapel is modest in scale but has a long devotional history, with some accounts tracing its origins to the late eighteenth century and a vow made by shipwrecked sailors. It remains a point of local religious practice, including a traditional Ferragosto procession when the statue of the Madonna is carried down to the sea by boat.
Visitors come here as much for the setting as for the building itself: a quiet spot reached on foot, by bike or by car, with space to pause, take in the panorama and, for some, a moment of prayer or reflection away from the busier stretches of coast nearby.
