A table above Porto Rotondo's harbour
Da Gianni al Molo in Porto Rotondo, the picturesque marina village perched on the edge of the Costa Smeralda—is just a short drive from Olbia. It has quickly become one of my personal favorite spots on the entire island, starting with its setting: the bobbing boats and glowing harbor of Porto Rotondo serve as the backdrop to your dinner. The mood effortlessly balances relaxed Italian charm with a polished, sophisticated edge.

The cooking: classic Italian with a twist
The kitchen operates on a simple philosophy: ultra-fresh, peak-quality ingredients. While the menu deeply respects traditional Italian heritage, the chef isn't afraid to play, expect familiar regional classics updated with inventive, modern twists that give traditional flavors a vibrant second life.
Two dishes worth ordering
Pasta with anchovies
Anchovies serve as the salty, savory backbone in many Italian kitchens, and placing them front and center in a pasta dish perfectly showcases the restaurant's knack for reworking classics, a personal favorite of mine and one that I have never had anywhere else before!
Ribs with mashed sweet potato
The other favourite is a meat dish: A rich meat dish that offers a welcome reminder that a harbor-side table doesn't have to mean fish alone. Note: This is a rotating special, so double-check the daily menu board to see if it’s featured when you visit.
Wine with Gimmi
The restaurant’s wine program is anchored by the resident sommelier, Gimmi, who takes all the guesswork out of ordering. If you feel overwhelmed by a Sardinian wine list, hand the reins over to him and tell him what you're eating, he will bring the perfect bottle for you.
If you would like a primer before you go, check out our Vermentino in Olbia to learn about the island’s signature white wine—a natural pairing whenever fresh seafood hits the table.
Save room for the gelato
Whatever you do, you must order some gelato before you leave. The gelato here is non-negotiable. Silky, decadent, and genuinely irresistible, they have earned a reputation for serving some of the best gelato around. Make sure to leave enough room after dinner for a scoop or two.
A small detail: Leo's ties
Keep an eye out for Leo in the dining room! A fun touch for first-timers and regulars alike: Leo never wears the same tie twice, with a personal collection running far into the hundreds.

Da Gianni al Molo delivers on all fronts: a prime harbor view, an inventive kitchen that plays thoughtfully with Italian classics, a sommelier who earns your trust instantly, and an iconic gelato that demands to be ordered.
Order the anchovy pasta, follow it up with the sweet potato ribs, and let Gimmi handle the rest.
